We have entered the Fabulous country of Bolivia!! My heart truly never left the first time. We traveled to Tupiza. The environment very similar to Red Rocks and Utah. Yes we are still in the Desert. I guess we will never leave it for a while until we get north of Lima......anyways....
In Tupiza. WE stayed in a hostal that we did not book a tour through so they asked us to leave in a very nice way. The place we did book our tours through (Gran de Oro) said that hostal does it all the time and is giving itself a bad reputation in the town. We did a horseback, bike, and jeep tour that lasted all day. Our guide was Rubin. He was fantastic. We ate authentic Bolivian Tamales with LLama meat. It was great. SORRY NEW MEXICO OR MEXICO. These are by far the BEST TAMALES EVER!! We saw tons of canyons and rock formations. Very beautiful.
That night we stayed with the owner of the tour we booked she was really nice and provided breakfast and hot showers. Nice bed. Cassie and I enjoyed a meal out and it was great to eat more Bolivian food.
We woke early to get some things done before we began our 4 day South West tour of Bolivia. Cassie spent time in the plaza talking to the locals. Very friendly people they dont care where we are from they just talk to us and ask questions.
We then left around 10 am with 2 french people Aline and Pauline and our guide Rubin again and his girlfriend Roxanne that was our great cook. We started by going up from 2700 meters to about 4300 meters. We saw more great rock formations on the way out of town. Great vista views. That night we stayed in a home in the middle of nowhere and they were great hostesses. The food was fantastic all DAY.
Day 2 we went to some hotsprings. Saw very high lagunas with great blue water and tons of Flamigos at the Altitude of 5000 meters. Then slept at 4700 (16,000 ft) meters in this great area with a baby llama eating our organic rubbish.
The next day more lagunas with Flamingos super close. Crazy rock formations. Each day a barren desert that very few live in. Tranquil environment. That night we stayed in a Salt Hotel. Walls and ceilings, beds, tables everything made of salt. Cassie had a really bad headache from the sun and the really bumpy terrain we traveled on. It was a rough ride for 4 days. That night we also had live Bolivian music. 3 young boys and an older gentleman played great music for us. We drank wine and Cassie was able to participate after drinking a mate de coca to help the dolar de cabeza (headache) which was nice.
We awoke early on day 4 to watch the sunrise over the Uyuni Salt flats. A great expanse as far as the eye can see of salt. We took cool pictures. Went to a Coral cactus Island surrounded by the salt. Great breakfast and lunch. We ended in Uyuni Bolivia. Our guide and Chef returned to Tupiza. The wonderful Pauline and Aline hung out with us as we toured Uyuni. They treated us to Helado and Liquados (Ice cream strawberry and fruit juice). All with fresh ingredients. We all played soccer with some young ones and then Pauline and Aline left for sucre and cassie and I treated ourselves to a taste of BOSTON
Yep you heard it right here in Bolivia Uyuni a guy and his wife are from Boston and the run a fantastic pizza joint. A lil more expensive but good to get food from home. AND ENGLISH. Cassie went back to eat breakfast. My budget could not handle the expensive taste. Either way we left today and are in Potosi in one of the highest cities in the world. 4200 meters. We are great. This country is great and off to Sucre then Cochabamba, La Paz, Rurre, Corioco, Sorota, copacabana, then peru. WE promise to tell you all about it. Enjoy TITO AND CASSIE
